A CRA audit is a review or examination of a taxpayer’s financial and tax information to ensure compliance with Canadian tax laws. Objections
A CRA decision or assessment can be challenged if you believe that the decision or assessment is not correct. A Notice of Objection is a formal request made by a taxpayer to CRA to challenge an assessment or determination made by the CRA. This can be done when the taxpayer believes that the CRA has made an error or that the assessment is incorrect.
Once the Notice of Objection is received, the CRA will review the objection and conduct a formal review of the taxpayer’s file. This may include requesting additional information or documentation from the taxpayer.
After the review is completed, the CRA will issue a decision letter to the taxpayer, either upholding the original assessment or making changes to it. If the taxpayer disagrees with the decision, they may appeal to the Tax Court of Canada.
At Aterna, our tax professionals can represent you during the objection process, as filing a Notice of Objection can be a complex process.
